The only unfortunate thing Nokia did ( I DUNNO WHY ) was Not to advertise the modem and IR capabilities for otherwise such a hep Nokia 8810.


Apart from Nokia 8810 , Nokia 7110, 8210 and 8850 also have simillar capabilities.


Yeah Nokia 8810 does have an in built GSM modem just like 7110 , 8210 and 8850.

All you have to do is to download the IR enhanvements on your PALM from the PALM support web site.

Once you do so you can see the option IRComm to Modem as a connection method in 'Prefs' .

1. Go to Prefs.
2. Click on Connections
3. Create a new one call it Nokia8810
4. Edit the settings for this to have the following
Connection Method - 'IRComm to Modem'
Dialilng - TouchTone
Volume - off

Being in Prefs

Now click in Network and

1. Create a new service --- call it a name Singnet or whatever
2. put username
password etc
in connection select Nokia8810 (the one which you created )

3. enter the phone number to dial in


and here you are ready to do it ,,,,

Please note you need to subscribe to MObile Office

Use any of the softwares like ProxiWeb or Avantgo ...

Try opening any web page it automatically calls the phone (which should be placed wit IR enabled next to the IR of your Palm)

and here you go ....

Please remeber to enable IR on your phne prior to using the Palm ...

I've tried it and it works pretty well....except for the fact that every site I attempt to go to, it says, "Error 5455: Failed to connect to the server."

Why is this so?

I'm using a Vx and Nok7110

Judging by what you say, I suspect you are trying to surf the web using Avantgo. Unfortunately, Avantgo does not work on any ISP that requires a proxy server. Avantgo works fine for hotsyncing, but the Mobile Link on your palm does not support proxy, and so it is unable to connect to the Avantgo server.
Try using either Proxiweb or EudoraWeb instead.

Heh, only Avantgo gives that errorcode.
Anyway, EudoraWeb is available free of charge. It can be downloaded from the eudora website http://www.eudora.com
and is bundled with eudora for palm. It's called Eudora Internet Suite.
Or you can get it off palmgear.
Proxiweb is also free, you just have to register with them to use the program and service. Basically, Proxiweb is similar to Avantgo in that it needs to connect to a special server to download the webpage. Should also be available in palmgear.

Oh one thing I forgot to mention, EudoraWeb supports only text, ie no graphics at all. Proxiweb does, and also supports sercure servers. But proxiweb is slower and sometimes doesn't look as good.

Just to comment on Not being able to use Avantgo for Surfing because of proxy .

Lemme tell you something which is strange and unexplianable.

1. First something Not So Unexplainable. - I am perfectly able to use Avantgo to surf all the web pages I like ... even those which fall outside .sg domain.

2. Now the unexplainable is, I never eneterd any proxy address and I know Singnet doesn't let surf without the proxy ....Or I dunno if they have made some setting off late to keep it transparent to the users. So in the end I am using Both Avantgo and Proxiweb to surf without any troubles...

The fact to augment Avantgo working is ... that even though I am using Proxiweb i have never configured the proxy settings as required by Singnet .. instead they are that 'Dog' and 'Cat' settings ...

Lemme try working with the other account I have to see is this behaviour of going without Proxy only applicable to certain accounts or to everyone ..

Shall keep you guys posted ...

Personally I think Proxiweb is better. The error message is what everyone gets when we are trying to surf with Avantgo. To hotsync Avantgo, all you need to do is to configue the connection and network on your Palm and when you press modemsync on mobilelink it will connect it for you. Can be any ISP you are using. (Sorry Jaspal, toke your question, hope you don't mind:))

Somebody did mention something about browse-it and claims to be the better. Havn't tried it though since can't find it on the web
