The RhinoPak 1000 was an impulsive buy that proved to be of immense value. Currently, the RhinoPak accompanies me whenever I am out of the house. It usually carries my Palm V in the 3Com hardcase together with a Cross stylus. It can even accommodate my Palm V in the RhinoSkin Titanium Hardcase
.
My RhinoPak, Palm V and the Palm V’s 2 babysitters
Looks
Though, it is no beast, the RhinoPak 1000 is no Prince V charming either. How I wish I had more choice of colours. But as it is, only black is available. Don’t they know black attracts mosquitoes? Oh well, I supposed black will make me look slimmer.
The inside story.
Functionality
The RhinoPak 1000 is a carry case specifically designed for Palm organizers. However, it is found on the Silicon Horizon website under Palm III cases.
Protection: Made of Cordura, it offers fantastic protection against the elements. I have yet to walk through pouring rain with it. However, since it is made of the same materials as the RhinoPak 2000 (the other review (http://www.spug.net/reviews/rrhinopak.htm) by Joel Ow), it should be able to protect against a heavy downpour. The case itself will never stop a speeding bullet. It should however, be able to cushion a hard fall onto concrete.
Usability: The RhinoPak 1000 is a great carrying case. I usually strap it to my belt. Extraction of the Palm is easy since I can unzip the whole case without having to worry about the Palm V dropping down. The Palm V is safely secured to the case by the 4 rubber straps. Insertion is also very easy.
The 4 straps ensure peace of mind

Durability: My other complaint about the RhinoPak 1000 is that the exterior mesh seems to be vulnerable to wear and tear. I've used it for less than 1 month and there's already a tear in the mesh.
Tear and tears. Wahh….sob….
Point to note
At the time of review, it is discovered that the RhinoPak 1100 has replaced the RhinoPak 1000. Below are a few pictures that are ripped from the RhinoSkin Website.
The New Look
The strap at the back is now detachable. In addition, credit cards slots have replaced the interior mesh.
Please also note that the RhinoPak is currently available in 3 flavors, t he bigger the number, the bigger the case.
RhinoPak 1100 (updated version of the RhinoPak 1000)
RhinoPak 2000
RhinoPak 3000
Conclusion
The RhinoPak 1000 is a useful product with a reasonable price tag.
Who would want to buy:
Palmers who dislike placing their Palms in shirt pockets.
Palmers with no shirt pockets.
Palmers who like to take walks in the rain with their Palms while singing "I am singing in the rain, just singing in the rain…"
Likes:
Protection against the elements.
Great alternative to 3Com clip-on.
Dislikes:
Only available in 1 colour.
Mesh tears easily.
Rating:
and a half
