Introduction

The Chameleon case is given such a name for good reason. It features replaceable colour sheets to match that changeable faceplate of your handheld. The high-gloss coating of the shell gives it the sleek, high-tech look that puts competing cases to shame. In my opinion, it looks even better than the original m100 faceplate!

Style aside, the hard case gives good protection to the handheld within. Overall, this hard case scores high on the must-get list.

Features

Hard case made of protective ABS durable plastic
Super high-gloss paint coating
See-through date/time window on the front with depressible badge button to activate the handheld's date/time display
Strong sliding side catch to lock the case
Stylus house at the back of the case
Changeable colour sheets
Optional Fablock to attach case to belt, trousers, skirt, shirt bag etc
Inner cushion lining
Design

The hard case is made of 2mm thick strong plastic. It offers excellent coverage concealing the entire handheld when closed. On the front face of the casing, there is a see-through window (similar to the m100's flip cover) that reveals the date and time when the metallic 'Scribble' badge is depressed.

The casing is held closed tightly by a strong sliding side catch. This catch is not difficult to operate but securely locks the case shut, preventing any accidental push that might pry the case open.

The inside is cushion-lined to protect handheld from scratches. In other cases, the handheld can sometimes be scratched during use when the case rubs against the handheld.

The handheld is secured by clips (circled in green) that insert into the flip cover housing on the m100 handheld. This prevents the handheld from dropping out when the case is open.

Since the handheld is secured to the case (thus blocking access to the stylus silo), another stylus silo is provided outside the back of the case. The original stylus fits tightly into the slot. However, my Pentopia seems too fat to fit in.

Appearance

The body is coloured in dark metallic grey, and coated with a thick layer of high clear gloss. The thickly coated paint job is especially evident along some hidden edges where it seems that gloss paint had overflowed. Nevertheless, the paint job looks like it's there to stay. This high-gloss finishing gives it an extremely appealing and sleek finishing.

Both front and back covers sport replaceable colour sheets. The package comes with red, magenta and dark blue colour sheets. Another black coloured back sheet (with a hole in the middle) is provided for use with the Fablock knob.

Fablock

The Fablock clip allows you to attach the Chameleon case to your belt, trousers, or even your skirt, shirt bag, etc. When not in use, the socket can be concealed by replacing the black coloured sheets with a coloured sheet. The Fablock clip is also available separately.

IR & Hotsync

The case is designed to allow unblocked access to the IR and Hotsync ports when opened. While the m100 is sitting comfortably in the case, you will be able to attach a Hotsync cable easily, and use the beaming function. However, to use the Hotsync cradle, the handheld has to be removed from the case.

Weight & Size

Made of lightweight plastic, the case itself is much lighter than the handheld. However, size is compromised for the durability and protection it offers for your m100/m105 handheld.

Conclusion

The Chameleon case is an excellent hard case for the m100 series handheld. It features a high-gloss finish, changeable colour sheets, a clear date and time window, and a thick, light-weight plastic body, which will give good drop protection.
