how to buy a tennis racquet?

    Hi,

just wondering... what do you look out for in a tennis racquet?

I'm thinking of getting a better racquet when I can play better. Thinking of getting a wilson racquet and my bugdet is around max $200.

Also, where is the cheapest place to buy a tennis racquet?

Thanks for all your input in advance!

Hmm.. depends on how involved you are gonna get in to the game. If you get too cheap a racket of poor built, you will find yourself tossing the racket aside for another that is better and costs more. So, if you want to be serious about the sports, get a good racket that costs between $200-$300. If you just want to whack the ball for fun, get anything.

Go to tennis.com. They have some good recommendation. Prince latest range is not bad.

And yes, Queensway shopping centre has some good buys.

    so which brand?

    so wilson or prince?

I used to like prince because Michael Chang was one of the "ambassedor" of the brand... but that was ancient years ago.

what about the grip? it seems that it's hard to get 4 1/8, the smallest that I come across is 4 1/4 so far.

    PRINCE!!!!

it's matter of preference really. If you have a racquet before, then you might have a 'feel' for a brand. I personally cannot really get use to Wilson. I'm a Prince advocate.

Grip - you must grip the racquet and see lar....

    For me :
Prince longbody + oversize + crossfire strings = SWEEEET!

but if you dunno about anything, then it's really down to how you feel with the thing in your hand.....

go to that shop i wrote in my previous post, I've been stringing there everytime competition crop up.... efficient.

There is this shop at level 2, opposite to handphone shop, which just sell tennis stuffs. They are quite pro, maybe can ask them for recommendation.

This is definitely my area. I'm a chronic tennis racquet overbuyer....

I've owned about 6-7 rackets so far I think: Prince Tricomp, Prince Thunderstick, Graphite(Original), Wilson 6.2 Stretch, Wilson Prostaff 6.2, Wilson HyperHammer 4.3 Stretch and the Hyperhammer 6.3 Stretch..... Oh yes, one of the Dunlop revelation rackets.

Queensway is not a bad place to get rackets, prices are way way cheaper than RSH unless RSH is having a 50% sale. But even then the sale racket may not be the racket that suits you.

The shops in Queensway as well as the Stadium in Taka allow you to take the rackets back home to playtest - some places are free, others require a deposit or a small fee(refundable if you buy the racket in the end). There is another place in Turf City called "My Racket Shop" that has quite a few rackets that you can borrow to play test for free.

You should try to either borrow rackets from friends or from the tennis shops and try before spending the money on a new racket.

For me, it's always been Prince. I've four racquets.....all Prince. If I had to get a fifth racquet, it'd probably be a Prince too. Tried my friends' Wilson racquets, but the feel's just not right. Maybe you should borrow some from your friends to test out first.

Like Ddeath said, it might be worthwhile to spend a $100 more to get a tennis racquet that you will really keep. Personally, I think Head is the best out there, but then again, Wilson is the most value for money.

I use the Hammer 6.2. Love it to bits.

Make sure u get the one with a perfect grip!
Dont be shy to ask friendly shopkeeper. Mines at least a 4 1/2
I think you might wanna try out Head I.x6. I played around with my pals and i tell you, its da bestest racquet!

Anyhow, i like head, am currently using an I.S2

Oh, you might wanna check out the weight of the racquet.

Whether its head light, head heavy.

    Max Tension

    Frame size, oversize or midplus

Aesthetically pleasing. Thats how i choose my racquets! haha

    Another chronic racquet buyer.

    yy how old are you?

R U using the older Hammer 6.2 stretch? That was an awesome racket. I'm still wondering why I switched to a 4.3.... after a yr, I finally switched back.
