Alright, any tom dick harry brand can easily beat the Foleo in terms of technical specifications. In fact, we don't even need to wait. There are plenty of notebooks out there right now that can make the Foleo look like some ancient dinosaur.

But let's not forget what Palm is traditionally good at, simplicity. Despite the lack of technical features, there are still many users who are sticking with Palm because of it's intuitiveness and the vast number of softwares available. I'm sure there are a lot of users out there who has been on the PPC and back to Palm again because it's really too much of an hassle.

Palm is just going back to what they are doing best, coming up with no-frills product that does the job in double quick time.

Foleo is really what a real road warrior needed. Checking mails, surfing net, writing documents. There are the people who do not need powerful processor neither do they need sophisticated software. These are the people who requires a fairly large device to facilitate their use simply because they are so used to the form factor that traditional laptop offers.

Palm is smart enough not to compete in terms of technical features but rather focus on 'getting the job done' line.

My personal experience is that even with my TX and a wireless keyboard, it is still quite a pain to surf the net, check my mail whenever i'm out.

Hence, i'm incline to think that the crucial factor in the success of the Foleo, is like what some of you have pointed out, ease of use, weight and the battery line.

Can't wait for it to come out in Singapore. Would really love to have a hands on and see how good it is. Really, if this thing has an open OS and extensive developers support, it would be a great system. I want to see it succeed, but I have strong doubts based on past performance of Palm.

i hibernate the laptop and when i press the power button, the laptop can be used in less than 1 min. of course not instant on like palm device lar... but fast enough for me.
Hibernation is a waste of space... takes up about 1 GB. The only advantage I see for my laptop (IBM Thinkpad with the usual Think* "bloatware" - although they are mostly useful) is that I'm back to whatever I was working on previously after roughly the same amount of time it takes to boot, compared to a clean state... Thus, I'm not that convinced with the trade-off...

Not say I say what arh, Foleo's quoted battery life is only 5 hours, whereas a Thinkpad X series with an extended battery (that brings us to a weight of 2 kg?) can easily hit 7 hours, if not 8. Hopefully the Palm engineers can work on the battery life before the actual product hits the stores...

I just saw my Pastor's new UMPC Tablet. He bought it recently for about SGD1k. The unit runs XP and tested battery life is 5 hours. The keyboard is small but usable. Weight is 1kg. Can't remember the name, but it uses AMD Geode.

    It's Kohjinsha.

Runs on AMD Geode, but according to what the promoters at the PC Show say, it is not really XP Tablet version, but XP Pro with tablet capabilities.

Of course, I cannot use the foleo to read before I koon or when I poo poo - too big, I think. Oso, I cannot whip it out to read during red light or when I am standing in an MRT journey.

Yes, developers support will be crucial.

However, the past performance of Palm has be superb, what! The Vx was a great PDA, the Zire 72 was my favourite, my current TX is not too bad, and although I dont own the Treo, I understand that it is one of the best, if not the best selling PDA phone worldwide.

    Hi,

Yup, that's the one. Was just chatting with him. There appears to be some issue with having it do a mirror of the video onto the projectors. We're not sure why it can only show at one monitor only and not simulataneously.

The Kohjinsha model is SA1F00WS and is touch screen with 100gb harddisk? Like I said, have not played with the machine much.

    ahh...here's the specs

    He has the white version.

Microsoft® Windows XP Home Edition SP2

    512MB PC2700 (SODIMM DDR333)
    100GB

    Bluetooth Ver and 2.0+EDR
    Wireless LAN: IEEE802.11 b/g conformity
Touch screen attaching 7 type wide TFT color liquid crystal
Approximately 990g (at the time of battery installing)

I only like the Vx. Other than that, all the other PDAs I've used are from Sony Clie. I find that Palm PDAs cannot fight with Sony's in every way. But that's my personal opinion....

No, I agree. Sony's TH 55 was fantastic.

I still have the TH55. My wife is happily using it. Frankly after SO many years, its still a tough PDA to beat.
